Transport Profile and Permissions Survey

This survey will take approximately 7-10 minutes to complete. Best Friends is creating an online visual tool to help expedite network partner's abilities to identify and make direct contact with potential transport compatible partners. Complete this survey to submit basic information to high level data points often used to distinguish initial transport compatibility. The information submitted will be displayed on the tool as a partner's transport profile, including participant provided contact information intended to be used for further communication.

The tool will:

  • Visualize the location of Network partner animal transport parties
  • Provide basic "Transport Profile" information for the map (s/n, vaccination status, transport- abilities)
  • Include participant provided contact information

This tool is NOT meant to indicate 100% matches alone. The goal is simplify identifying and connecting with potential transport parties to expedite transport partnerships for increased timely lifesaving abilities.

Pre-Transport Medical - Sending Organization

Questions in this section are only capturing basic information to initial indicators that are often initial questions asked to determine transport partner compatibility.

These indicators are:

  1. If animals are vaccinated on intake,
  2. What spay/neuter status pre transport is possible
  3. Parasite control treatment status.

We recognize there is a lot more information needed and further conversations to be had before determining actual transport partnering compatibility. This tool is to provide answers to these initial basic indicators and present this info in a visual collective place, to expedite potential transport matches. Further questions and details can be asked using the provided transport contact information.

In order to prevent infectious disease in shelter animals, the Association of Shelter Veterinarians Guidelines for Standards of Care in Animal Shelters recommend vaccination immediately on intake to the shelter.

Published guidelines for vaccination of shelter-housed dogs and cats:

Parasite control: The ASV guidelines (links above) recommend a parasite control program specific to the region and shelter population, including deworming for hookworms and roundworms because of the public health significance of these parasites.

Are animals receiving basic vaccination(s) upon intake?*

See medical recommendations linked above

Are animals receiving basic parasite preventatives and controls*

See medical recommendations linked above

Do you have ability to spay/neuter animals prior to sending on transport?*
Are health certificates provided for out-of-state travel?*

While there are recommended core vaccinations and treatments for cats and dogs (see following guidelines for standards of care for animal shelters, vaccination and parasite control) actual pre-transport medical abilities will vary based on at least available resources, medical direction and individual animal. In order to prevent infectious disease in shelter animals, the Association of Shelter Veterinarians Guidelines for Standards of Care in Animal Shelters recommend vaccination immediately on intake to the shelter. * Published guidelines for vaccination of shelter-housed dogs and cats: https://www.aaha.org/aaha-guidelines/vaccination-canine-configuration/vaccination-recommendations--shelter-housed-dogs/ https://www.aaha.org/aaha-guidelines/2020-aahaaafp-feline-vaccination-guidelines/core-vaccines-for-shelter-cats/ * Parasite control: The ASV guidelines (links above) recommend a parasite control program specific to the region and shelter population, including deworming for hookworms and roundworms because of the public health significance of these parasites.

Permission to Share Information Provided

The purpose of this tool is to record parties' basic transport profile and point of contact information for display on an online map to expedite connections between transport partners. The basic organization transport profile information is to allow users to identify those with potential for transport collaboration and the transport contact information is intended to be used to facilitate further communication. This section is to capture your organization's desired transport contact information and permissions to display this information are recorded.

Do you agree to have your organization's transport-related contact information published as part of the web based tool available to the public?*
