Career Mentorship - Mentee Application

The BCIT Student Association (BCITSA) Career Mentorship Program introduces students to industry professionals in their respective fields. The mentor’s role is to help you meet your goals, give you industry tips and provide you with guidance in business etiquette. This program is a great way to get objective and unvarnished advice.


What can a mentor assist you with?

- Providing first-hand insights to the professional world

- Development of short and long term goals

- Developing effective career planning to assist you in getting your dream job

- Exploring career options

- Enhancing your professional network

- Helping you make the transition from the academic world to today’s work world


Program Requirements:

- Must be a registered full time or part time student at the time of the start of the mentorship program you apply for.

- Be committed to a 5 month mentoring relationship

- Attend online goal setting training

- Complete and submit your goals (after goal setting training)

- Meet with your mentor 1 hour each month, with an hour or two between meetings for follow up and prep

- Submit a monthly mandatory summary of your progress through an online form


Program Process:

- Submit this application

- Book and attend an interview when invited to do so

- Acceptance to the program

- If accepted, attend mandatory goal setting training before you meet your mentor

- If not accepted, re-apply for the next intake

Application Details

The Fall 2023 intake is five months starting in August 2023. You will be working with your mentor September 2023 - December 2023.


In this application, you are required to submit/answer:

- Your LinkedIn or copy of your resume

- Answers to why you want to join the program and what you are looking for in a mentor

- Specific careers you are considering

- Providing a bio that describes yourself (a paragraph in length)

Personal Details

To help prepare you to meet with your mentor, you will have an opportunity to have your resume critiqued by a BCIT HR Volunteer Peer Reviewer to help you not only grab a recruiter’s attention but also moves you to the top of the stack! You will be provided with detailed feedback on your resume’s appearance and content and overall first impressions. Your feedback will be provided to you before you meet with your mentor.
