Visitor Candidate Form

Information on this form is required to complete the appointment process for visitors to Stanford University. There may be additional information required to assist with a visa application process through the university’s Bechtel International Center. This information is being gathered through a secure online process and will be used only to complete Stanford internal administrative processes or for visa application process, if applicable. Complete the following form to the best of your ability. If you have any questions, please contact the Stanford administrator who sent you this form.


Note: Visiting Scholars and Visiting Postdoctoral Scholars are not employees of the university, do not receive regular salary compensation from Stanford, and must have their own source of financial support from outside of Stanford.

Intellectual Property (IP) - Stanford University resources are to be used solely for University purposes and not for personal gain or personal commercial advantage, nor for any other non-University purposes. Visitors to Stanford are required to complete an intellectual property agreement form (SU18A). The form can be viewed here: http://otlportal.stanford.edu/su18a .


Notes for visitors requiring a visa: As a condition of the visa visitors will be required to demonstration they have sufficient funds and adequate health insurance coverage to support themselves and any dependents while in the U.S. Schools may also have additional requirements for funding support and health insurance coverage.

Health insurance requirements: The United States Information Agency regulations require that all exchange visitors and their dependents maintain insurance at levels that meet the USIA-prescribed coverage. Details of this coverage can be found in the Orientation Handbook, provided to the visitor at the time the DS-2019 is issued. https://bechtel.stanford.edu/coming-stanford/health-insurance


English proficiency: As per the Department of State, a prospective visitor should have "sufficient proficiency in the English language as determined by an objective measurement of English language proficiency, successfully to participate in his or her program and to function on a day-to-day basis." https://bechtel.stanford.edu/departments/j-1-visitors/english-language-proficiency-j-1
