Shared Stewardship and Ethical Return Inquiry/Request Submission Form

If you believe your materials have been acquired or handled unethically, please fill out this form to submit an inquiry/request for shared stewardship or ethical return.


Requests will be reviewed in the order in which they are received by the Museum’s Shared Stewardship and Ethical Returns (SSER) Committee. The SSER Committee will evaluate your inquiry/request within 15 business days.


When submitting a request, please make sure to generate a copy of the submission for yourself by selecting the "Send me a copy of my responses" option at the end of the form. If you have any questions before we reach out to you, please contact NMAAHC-SSER@si.edu.


If your inquiry/request concerns another matter, please visit the Museum’s contact page to direct your inquiry/request to the appropriate department.

Please indicate your preferred honorific or salutation (for example, Miss, Mr., Dr., etc.). If you prefer to be addressed by your first name, feel free to note that here instead.

Please describe the nature of your inquiry/request. Include as much detail as possible so that we may best serve you.

If your inquiry/request is in reference to a specific object or collection, please submit the link to the online catalog record or note the object number, if known.
