SB27 Supplier: Notice from Aggrieved Employee

Dear University of California (UC) Supplier,


Under SB27, suppliers have an obligation to provide the UC's President with notification when they receive written notice from an aggrieved employee alleging the supplier failed to comply with the statute's obligations. The language of the statute is set forth below, including the notice requirement and applicable definitions.


In the event you receive a written notice of an alleged violation from an aggrieved employee, Please use the following form to provide the relevant contact information and attach a copy of the communication from the aggrieved employee.


SB27 also requires that if a claimant prevails in an action brought under SB27, the vendor shall notify the President of the University of California of the decision. Please use the below links to provide notice of any Civil Actions brought upon your company and the Civil Action Decision.

"Prior to bringing an action against a vendor, an aggrieved employee shall first provide a vendor with written notice of an alleged violation of this part. The written notice shall include the names or other information sufficient to identify the affected employees against whom the alleged violations were committed, dates of employment, the period of alleged noncompliance, and contact information."  

(Gov't Code section 10510.53(c)(1))


“Aggrieved employee” means either of the following:

(1) An employee against whom one or more alleged violations of this article was committed.

(2) A university employee coworker of an employee against whom one or more alleged violations of this article was committed who performs services for the university at or for the same university location or department as the employee. 

(Gov't Code section 10510.51(a)).


"If a vendor receives such a written notice pursuant to paragraph [(c)(1)], the vendor shall provide a copy of the written notice to the president of the university within five business days of receipt.
