The FRAIM skills workshops may be supported by secondary short sessions focused on: ● Graphics ● Audio recording and mixing ● Legals ● Funding options ● Distribution pathways ● Gear

WORKSHOP #1 - RECORDING & PRODUCING FUNNY STORIES

There are many ways to tell funny stories on screen and there are many humorous stories told in remote communities. This workshop will review a number of different ways to tell humorous stories. The workshop will include the recording of stories with some well-known gifted story tellers. This workshop will focus on how to direct the recording of these stories, and then how to further visualise and enhance the stories on screen including the use of animation and performance.

WORKSHOP #2: PRODUCING NEWS IN LANGUAGE USING A RANGE OF PROFESSIONAL AND PROSUMER TOOLS

ICTV has recently commenced production of a regular television news program, which is delivered in one of three Central Australian Indigenous languages. In addition to developing stories in-house, the project has commissioned and paid for stories from community producers and journalists. There are also other opportunities to generate income through the production of news stories for community screen practitioners from other broadcasters and news services. This workshop will look at a number of issues around translating news stories into language as well as some of the challenges, and solutions, in producing news stories in community.

WORKSHOP 3 : COVERAGE AND EDITING OF SEQUENTIAL EVENTS, INCLUDING LIVE BROADCASTS AND STREAMS

Cultural, religious and bush-tucker videos are some of the most popular types of programming on ICTV. All these events follow a sequential structure and need to be recorded in their entirety, therefore a multi camera approach provides optimal coverage. The live broadcast and streaming of events is becoming much more popular. This workshop will focus on the types of events that are sequential and are most suited to live or quasi-live broadcasting and streaming and will culminate in the live broadcast of the ICTV Video Awards.

WORKSHOP #4: DOCUMENTARY PRODUCTION MASTERCLASS

Indigenous screen practitioners have been using film and video for many years to explore, challenge and present an Indigenous perspective to a wider audience. This documentary masterclass is a targeted work for screen practitioners who have produced several documentaries for ICTV, and would like to take their documentary film-making practice to the next level. There will be a focus on producing documentaries with a ‘rights’ focus. These may be water rights, land rights, self-determination, repatriation of artefacts or other stories that are critical to future Indigenous cultural and community safety.

WORKSHOP #5 - PRODUCING MUSIC VIDEO CLIPS

This workshop will look at teaching participants a number of skills for producing music video clips, such as: ● Working with the musicians to visual the music ● Lip synching with band on location ● Creating a drama or storytelling through a music video clip Participants will be given the opportunity to put their new skills to practice by working with a local group of musicians to plan and produce a music video to pre-recorded music.
