Lion Emergency Fund Overview

The Lion Emergency Fund offers financial support to Loyola Marymount University students facing unexpected, temporary financial hardships due to emergencies or crises (e.g., accident, family member’s death). These funds are provided as reimbursements to help students overcome short-term financial challenges. If you believe you qualify, please submit the Lion Emergency Fund application along with documentation of your hardship.


Fund Stipulations

  • Maximum Reimbursement: $750
  • Frequency: Reimbursements are available only once per academic year.


Eligible Expenses

  • Medical/Dental/Vision
  • Child Care
  • Books/School Supplies
  • DACA/Advanced Parole Application
  • Personal (Commuting, Food, Travel)


Ineligible Expenses

  • Tuition
  • Student Fees
  • Legal Fees/Fines


Eligibility Requirements

  • Enrollment: Must be enrolled full-time and consistently attending classes for the semester in which funds are requested (including summer classes if applying for summer funds).
  • Academic Standing: Must be a degree-seeking undergraduate or graduate student in good academic and conduct standing.
  • Financial Hardship: Must be experiencing an unexpected financial hardship due to an emergency or crisis that threatens the ability to successfully complete the current semester.
  • Exhausted Resources: Must have exhausted all other possible financial resources before applying, such as student loans, Medicaid, personal financial accounts, and community resources.
  • Documentation: Provide sufficient documentation of financial expenses (e.g., billing statements, receipts).


Application Process

  1. Complete Application: Fill out the Lion Emergency Fund application and submit it electronically with copies of receipts.
  2. Review: The completed request will be reviewed for approval, and the appropriate amount will be determined based on eligibility, documentation of need, and availability of funds.
  3. Notification: Students will be notified of the decision with follow-up instructions.
