The Gerry Gray Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to honor the memory of John Carroll’s former teacher, coach, parent and friend.
Mr. Gray, having just graduated from the University of Notre Dame, met Father Charles Riepe in 1963 when they were classmates in an M.Ed. night school program at Johns Hopkins University. Subsequently, and as a result of their JHU friendship, Mr. Gray was hired as the first teacher and coach for John Carroll’s 1964 school year, and thus began a memorable 30-year John Carroll career. Mr. Gray’s family has honored his legacy with a scholarship fund that originated from donations made to John Carroll when he died an early death from bone cancer in 1995.
