2023 Quabbin Boat Decontamination Checklist

Please read and acknowledge all the requirements listed below prior to arriving at your scheduled boat decontamination appointment. By submitting this form, you are acknowledging that if any of the conditions in the list below are not met, you will be turned away and not receive a boat seal. NOTE: this is not an exhaustive list.

The horsepower of the motor may not exceed half the boat’s horsepower rating. This is found on the manufacturers rating plate. If there is no rating plate, call the visitor center with the boat’s dimensions

The maximum horsepower allowed is 20 HP for 2-stroke engines and 25 HP for 4-stroke engines.

All boats must be at least 12 feet long and in compliance with MA boating laws

No carpeting is allowed anywhere on the trailer, including bunks and side rails

All gas motors need to be able to start and have enough gas to run for at least 5 minutes.

The process is a decontamination, not a cleaning. All surfaces of the trailer, boat, motor, live wells, and bilge shall be cleaned prior to being brought to the appointment.

There shall be no dirt, grease, oil, leaves, rust, fungi or other material that may mask the inspection of the trailer and boat. This includes grease on the inside or outside of the wheels on the trailer.

The following craft are not permitted: inboard motors, collapsible boats, sailboats, pontoon boats, kayaks, canoes (including square sterned canoes), or other similar craft.

Jon boats (flat bottom boats) are not allowed on the Main reservoir. Boats must have a V shaped hull.
