Each year, we seek a range of install teams with diverse perspectives, geographical locations and backgrounds who are interested in participating in the Solar Games.
Team Requirements
• 3 to 4 people on a team
• All teams must have one of the following at all times involved in the installation:
- All participants must have OSHA 10 certification (which inherently includes specifics to safety)
- The certification promotes a culture of safety through peer training with those who have done hands-on work (OSHA authorized trainers).
- Training uses hands-on activities.
- Trainers are able to tailor the training topics based on specific needs of their audience.
- OSHA 10 cards prove certification.
• At least one participant must be certified NABCEP PV Installation Professional or Technical Sales Professional
-OR-
• A licensed electrician or apprenticed electrician
- A licensed electrician is required to sign-off on the installed grid connect installation, certifying that it has been inspected, and the installation is found ‘to adhere to electrical code and is deemed safe.’
- In the United States, a Licensed Master Electrician is trained and certified in the National Electric Code (NEC) and follows industry-wide best practices for solar system installations. These trade professionals are skilled in all aspects of electrical installation and troubleshooting. A master electrician ensures solar systems are installed following local and national codes and according to detailed equipment specifications, wiring schematics, and system design layout.
• Teams must submit a general liability insurance form
Any team, if selected to participate, may choose to compete for up to two consecutive years. After two consecutive years, that team must wait at least two years to compete again in the Solar Games. If a team wins the Championship in either of those two years, that team may return to defend their title if they choose. And should that team win a repeat, second Championship, that team would retire as Champion for a minimum of two years.
