Application for SLCo Supervisor Credit Program

Program Description

To provide career development opportunities, Salt Lake County offers employees who have never had a direct supervisory role participate in a Supervisor Credit Program. There is required coursework and a project involving predefined hands-on work experience for the employee. Through this program, employees may earn one full year of supervisory experience.


This is not the Supervisory Certificate Program. The coursework is the same, but employees must complete a year-long project designed by the agency and approved by Human Resources.

Application Instructions

Applications are due by February 28, 2025.


An email will be sent to your supervisor to approve this application. If approved, your application will then be sent to your Division Director for approval.


If this application is approved by your Division Director and Department Director, you will be asked to submit a project proposal. Final acceptance into the program communicated by March 21, 2025. The requirements for the project will be discussed during orientation and Project Proposal Development workshop.


Be aware that we have already scheduled the orientation and proposal development workshops for this program. If you are accepted into the program, you are expected to attend:


  • Orientation: April 3, 2025, 11:00 am to 12:00 pm via WebEx.
  • Project Workshop: April 10, 2025, 11:00 am - 12:00 pm via WebEx


You will develop your project proposal during these sessions. Project proposals must be finalized and approved by your agency and Human Resources before the project start date of June 1, 2025.

Supervisor Credit Project Description

Below is an overview of the project expectations. We will cover this in more detail during the two proposal workshops.


Project design and complexity

The project will involve extensive hands-on experience with a high level of accountability and complexity. Participants must show how they manage team performance.


The project may include responsibilities such as the employee serving in an "Acting In" capacity; the employee serving as the "lead" of no less than two full-time staff; they could be provided an opportunity to lead and manage a project that deals with team management and conflict resolution.


In all cases they should assist with the performance management process and apply Salt Lake County policies and procedures to different situations. Specific activities related to the the information below should be included in the project description.

Project duration

The project duration would be for a minimum of 12 months and must start no later than June 1, 2025.
