Election 2000 Memory Project
November 2020 marks the 20th anniversary of Bush v. Gore. The Supreme Court Library is creating a permanent archive of memories from the event. If you were a judge or court employee, election worker, or were involved in some way with the Bush v. Gore presidential election disputes between November 7 and December 12, 2000, the library is asking that you complete the Election 2000 Memory Project form with your written recollection(s) of events, work life and assignments, behind-the-scenes anecdotes, or other memories worth sharing. Your stories and experiences are valuable historical insights to that time and place. Memories can include anything that stands out to you. What do you remember from that time: increased workload, teamwork and camaraderie, late nights, disrupted routines, the distraction of Florida’s recounts constantly on TV news? What memories do you have about how you felt during the chaos of the time. What was the ‘atmosphere’ like in your life or at your office? Did you walk around and take pictures? Did you meet a news reporter? Did you see something interesting, funny or unusual? Some of you were directly involved, and some were witnesses when Bush v. Gore happened. We would like to ask you to record your own memories of what this event was like from your own perspective. If your memories exceed the space provided, please create a Word file for your submission and upload the document using the “Upload File” feature below. PHOTOS: If you have personal photos to share, please upload them below or send them directly to Archivist Erik Robinson at robinsoe@flcourts.org. Memories will be compiled for archival purposes and educational use by the Supreme Court Library and Public Information Office. Thank you for your participation.
