HONORARY DEGREE

An institution shall confer honorary degrees only at the highest level for which it is authorized to award earned degrees.


Any such honorary degree conferred shall be distinguishable from earned degrees.

(e.g. Doctor of Fine Arts, Doctor of Humane Letters)

POSTHUMOUS DEGREE

Institutions in the State System are authorized to confer posthumous degrees granted by the State Regents.

Such degrees shall generally be unearned, nonacademic degrees recognizing the meritorious but incomplete earned work of a deceased student, generally a student who was deceased in the last semester of work.


Requests to confer a posthumous degree must be made by the institution and approved by the governing board.

OFF-CAMPUS AGREEMENT

Section 3.17.8 of the Distance Education and Traditional Off-Campus Courses and Program policy requires that an institution choosing to offer a course(s) in another institution's designated service area or at any site whose location is closer to another college or university than the college or university desiring to offer the service will have an off-campus agreement on file with State Regents ("Home Rule"). These agreements apply to traditional off-campus and off-campus concurrent enrollment courses. Signed and executed agreements must be on file at the State Regents' office before the courses are offered.

Attach a copy of the agreement between institutions (e.g. MOU) or other documentation that includes signatures of all parties.

ACADEMIC NOMENCLATURE

After obtaining governing board approval, institutions in the State System shall submit proposed changes in academic structure and nomenclature to the OSRHE staff for record keeping. The organizational chart submitted for the purpose of fulfilling 62 O.S. ยง 34.42 can be used to meet this reporting requirement, so long as the chart includes academic departments, schools, colleges, and divisions. The following are examples of proposed changes for which institutions must provide notice to the State Regents:


The creation of a new instructional unit (department, school, college, etc.).


The division of a single department or other instructional unit into two or more parts.


The upgrading of an existing instructional unit to a higher level or status, such as the upgrading of a department to the status of a school or college.

The following policy exceptions may be granted by the institution's President or their designee:

  • 3.16.2.B - Transcription of credit for prior learning prior to the completion of 12 credit hours at the institution
