General Education Transfer Certification Request
Before you submit a General Education Transfer certification request, please read the following information:
What is it?
Students transferring to a California State University (CSU) or University of California (UC) have the option of using one of the following general education patterns at any California Community College: CSU General Education Breadth or Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC). Upon successful completion, most CSUs and UCs will recognize the GE certification as a student having completed all lower-division requirements and general education requirements. (1)
Who is eligible?
- All students transferring to a CSU, UC, and in some cases, other colleges and universities. (2)
Foothill College GE certification policy:
- Last community college attended prior to transferring must be Foothill College in order to request a certification
- Only one (1) official GE certification will be processed per student
- Request must be submitted prior to transfer. (3)
- All other college and/or university official transcripts must be on file with Admissions and Records--including College Board AP Exam scores, if using AP credit
PROCESSING TIME:
- Within 7 to 14 business days. (4)
CHECKLIST:
It is highly recommended that you first meet with a Foothill College counselor to make sure you are ready to request a certification.
- Attach a PDF copy of your DegreeWorks audit.
- All eligible and applicable general education courses completed outside of Foothill-De Anza College District that you would like considered must be evaluated prior to submitting request. (5)
- If transferring to a non CSU/UC and requesting a certification, you must provide that institution's contact information.
(1) Some majors are excluded or may have different requirements. Please contact your transfer institution for more information.
(2) Many non CSU/UC colleges or universities will accept the CSU GE Breadth or IGETC CSU/UC pattern. Please contact your transfer institution for more information.
(3) Students are responsible to submit a certification request prior to transferring. Foothill College reserves the right to process certification requests for students already enrolled at their transfer institution.
(4) Requests that have in-progress coursework in one, or more, general education areas will be processed within 7 to 14 business days after coursework has been completed and a letter grade has been received. Processing time is subject to change during Spring and Summer quarters.
(5) Submitting a certification request without having your external transcripts evaluated may cause processing delays.
*LOTE may be satisfied with two (2) years (4 semesters) of any second-level, or higher, foreign language with the last semester's grade being a C-, or higher. Foreign high school transcripts must be translated into English and must provide a grading scale and transcript key. Transcript may be attached with your certification request.
