We invite your organization to join Housing Access New York, a broad coalition of groups that are fighting for the Housing Access Voucher Program. HAVP would be a statewide Section 8 like voucher to be used by people at risk of or experiencing homelessness funded at $250 million per year.
HAVP can combat the homelessness crisis, providing up to 20,000 vouchers and helping as many as 50,000 New Yorkers avoid the trauma of homelessness. Cities and towns across the state will be able to use these vouchers to help people experiencing homelessness find permanent homes or issue them to low-income New Yorkers at risk of becoming homeless. Although HAVP largely mirrors the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher, it will be more inclusive as it will be available to people regardless of immigration status or criminal record. (Bills for reference S2804B/A3701B)
Last year HAVP was included in both the Senate and Assembly’s one-house budgets, but we didn’t quite get it over the finish line. This year we are expanding our coalition to make sure it is fully funded in this years budget. We need more groups like yours and hope you will join. If you’re interested, please complete the form below to add your organization to the growing list of organizations fighting for HAVP.
