Summer Sports 2025


*Athletes must have a valid Special Olympics Delaware medical form on file with the SODE Office before participating. Since competitions are being held on different dates, athletes may sign up, train and compete in any or all summer sports. Athletes are requied to attend 80% of trainings inculding mid-season qualifier in order to qualify to participate in State Competition.


*Coaches, Team Assistants & Unified Partners must have a valid Class A Volunteer certification on file before participating. Athletes must be 8 years or older to participate.

Sign ups will close on June 15. Participants can not be added after this date.


Practices will not begin until after June 15. Information about practice dates and times can be found at www.sode.org/areateams and will be communicated via email from the Area Sports Directors.

Code of Conduct

The Special Olympics Delaware (SODE) Code of Conduct is designed to ensure that each participant — athletes, Unified partners, coaches, team assistants, day-of volunteers, and family members — abides by the philosophy and the mission of the organization.


Respect for Others:

• Respect the rights, dignity and worth of all individuals involved in SODE.


• Treat everyone equally regardless of gender, race, ethnic origin, religion, sexual orientation, or ability.


• All participants shall act with dignity and take responsibility for his/her actions.


• The participant’s language, manner, punctuality, preparation, and presentation will demonstrate the highest standards.


• The participant shall display control, respect, and dignity to all involved in Special Olympics.


• The participant shall set a positive example through his/her actions and encourage others to exhibit the same qualities.


• The participant shall not consume alcohol, tobacco or illegal drugs while participating in SODE events at any level (area, state, etc.).


• The participant will not engage in any disruptive behavior that interferes with the rights of others or impedes the training or competition of athletes.


• The participant will abstain from abusive language, disruptive behavior (including behavior that is dangerous to self or others), and acts of violence, physical abuse and/or sexual abuse or harassment toward any SODE participant.


• All participants are expected to follow the general and sport-specific guidelines and rules as established by SODE and Special Olympics Incorporated.


Agreement:

• All participants are expected to obey this Code of Conduct and all rules specific to their role in the program (i.e. athlete, coach).


• The Code of Conduct is a general guide for the conduct of a participant and does not describe all types of good and bad behavior.


• If a participant does not obey this Code of Conduct, the participant will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including being unable to participate in SODE.


• A participant is to notify a member of the SODE staff if he/she becomes aware of any person, including him/herself, who is in violation of this Code of Conduct or who is acting in any way that potentially could be harmful to a SODE participant or the organization.
