2024 UAA Indigenous Talent Identification Day Nomination

Where: Minto Indoor Sports Centre, Minto
Time: 9:00am - 1:00pm
Who: Secondary-School aged (ie 12-18 yrs) Male and Female Indigenous, First Nation, Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Athletes from the South West Sydney Academy of Sport Catchment areas, who live, attend school in or play sport in Camden, Campbelltown, Liverpool or Wollondilly, the traditional land of the Dharawal people.
What: Sport Talent Identification Day.
Cost: There is no cost to attend this day for Indigenous students. Participation includes Morning Tea and Gym t-Shirt.
How to be involved: Speak to your school sports teacher or school Indigenous Liaison Officer and ask them complete this form with you.
Athletes will take part in sport talent identification testing with Western Sydney University practitioners; as well as undertake sport skill sessions under the direction of Academy and Guest coaching staff
Sport skill sessions include;
Indoor Sports
Basketball (including 3x3)
Netball
General Sport Movement and Skill Activities
Outdoor Sports
Touch / Tag
AFL
Athletes do not have to be playing competitive sport, nor be proficient in the sports above to be able to come along and participate.
Athletes should attend in their school sports uniform.
Athletes will then be given a SWSAS Indigenous Day Shirt to wear throughout the event.
Athletes will rotate through each sport skill session, where coaching staff will provide teaching through fundamental skills and drills, as well as undertake basic sport science testing as a part of the days skill assessments.
After lunch (provided by SWSAS), athletes will be provided the opportunity to participate in short-sided or modified games of the sport of their choosing.
Following the Indigenous Talent Identification Day, the Academy will meet with the coaching staff to formalise a list of "identified" athletes.
These athletes will then be invited to participate in the Academy's Indigenous Athlete Program, including cultural education, sport education and a dedicated strength and conditioning program.
There is no cost for either the Talent Identification Day or Indigenous Athlete Program.
