When can you take the Advanced Research Seminar series?

All Legal Studies majors must complete the two-quarter Advanced Research Seminar, 398-1 and 398-2. The sequence must be taken within one academic year, in consecutive Fall - Winter quarters (students cannot split up or skip either of the courses). Rank your preferences for when you can take the Advanced Research Seminar sequence:

Seminar 1st choice*
Seminar 2nd choice*
Seminar 3rd choice

If you selected "cannot do" for any of the options above, please describe why you can't choose that option. Is it due to your graduation date, study-abroad plans, the Medill Journalism Residency, or other significant conflict? Describe.

A significant componant of the Legal Studies Advanced Research Seminar sequence is the writing of an original thesis. Students should keep an open mind about topics, but we would like to hear what topics or methods appeal to you. Please describe your interests in a short paragraph.

Are you planning to write a joint thesis (combined with another department)?*
