Please complete the SCBE New Casual, Contingent, & Student Hire Form if you wish to hire an undergraduate, graduate, or contingent employee to support any administrative, education, or research projects.

Note that current Stanford undergrads are limited to working up to 15hrs/week while enrolled in school to allow them to dedicate sufficient attention to school. During break periods between quarters, undergraduates may be employed full-time. The student may be eligible for Federal Work-Study, if so please complete the FWS application (https://ecmform.stanford.edu/FWSForm/) in addition to this request form.


If your new hire will be working remotely outside of CA, the PI will be responsible for paying their out-of-state payroll fees including their I-9 Anywhere Service fee. Please refer to Administrative Guide memo 2.2.2.2d administrative costs.


Out-of-State Hires: Stanford University employees who work outside the state of California are subject to all employment-related laws of the state in which they work. SCBE HR must be informed in advance of potential work arrangements outside of California. Further policy information is available in Administrative Guide Policy 2.2.2.

Important Notes on CASUAL and TEMPORARY Employees:


1. If duties are technical, maintenance, or service, employees may be appointed at 50% FTE or more for no longer than four consecutive months.

2. Temporary and casual employees are not regular employees. Temporary or casual employees are considered "at-will” for the duration of their employment. This means that employment can be terminated by either the employee or the university at any time and for any reason, or no reason, with or without notice.

3. An individual may be hired in a regular benefits-eligible position at any time after reaching the 980-hour maximum, as long as their meets all employment requirements. 4. Temporary and casual employees are not guaranteed a particular number of hours per week or duration of assignment.
