Theatre in the Pound application

Theatre In The Pound is a not-for-profit night, designed for individuals or groups of theatre practitioners to showcase new work in the main house of The Cockpit. Usually we programme 6 performances of up to 15 minutes each. This is followed by a short feedback discussion with the audience, to help companies develop the work.

Please note when applying that due to the low-cost nature of this event, we will be working with the rig and set for whatever the main show is in the house that month. Usually the set is minimal, however on occasion there may be a larger set on the stage. Please ask in advance if you think this my be an issue for you.

Tell Us About Your Piece

(or working title - you can change this later)

We generally schedule the scratch nights 2-3 months in advance. However, a space may become available at the last minute, so if you'd like to take a chance on a date coming up soon, do feel free to select it here.

Tell us about the piece. This is for internal use only, so please include spoilers. Tell us as much as possible to help us understand your work.

This is the blurb for the programme that we will print for the show. If you are still developing the piece, please send us something general for the meantime and then email us a new draft closer to the time. (70 words max)

Who needs crediting in our programme? Writer, director, performers, etc. You can email us an updated list closer to the time if you are still in the process of putting your team together.

Let us know roughly how long it will be. If you don't know just write, 'don't know'

What do you hope to get out of Theatre in the Pound? For example, are you testing out a brand new idea? Will the actor be reading from a script, or off-book and fully rehearsed? Have you presented this piece before? Do you intend to invite industry contacts such as agents, programmers, producers, etc?

There will be a short feedback session directly after your performance. Are there any particular questions you would like us to raise? You will be able to discuss this further on the day of the show with the Theatre In The Pound host.

Are there any particular warning we might need to make the audience aware of? Nudity, violence, extreme language, etc.

Are you happy for us to include generic information about your show in our marketing? Eg, themes, ideas, genres, to give an impression of the diversity of the TIT£ programme. We don’t market individual pieces or artists.

Are you happy for us to use photos of you and/or your piece in our social media and other marketing materials?

Theatre Maker

Our artist development programme.

Was your work created in a Theatre Maker course or workshop? If so, please let us know which one.

If so, please remind us when you participated, and what the piece was.

Technical Information

Owing to the low cost nature of the event, TIT£ is often programmed around main-house shows so we have to work around their lighting rig. However, we will provide a good general cover and a centre spot. If you think you need anything more, please email chris@thecockpit.org.uk

Tell us anything else you need to about your sound requirements - the more we know in advance the better. The best way to get your sound files to us is to bring them on a usb drive, with a back up online in case there are any issues with the drive. Our sound system does not have bluetooth, so if you're bringing a laptop to play sound from it will need to have a mini jack connection. Please note that playback from a phone or MP3 player is to be avoided.

Are there any risks we should be made aware of?

Does your piece contain the use of naked flames, weapons, pyrotechnics, smoke, haze, strobe, or any other effect?

Does your piece require clean up? e.g liquids on stage, confetti etc.

Are any of the performers barefooted?

Anything else you'd like to tell us?

Are you able to provide us with a risk assessment for your show/act? If you have one already, please link to it here (using Google Docs, One Drive, Dropbox, etc).

Do you, or anyone in your team, have access needs that we need to be aware of? (ie, step-free access, large print documents, etc)

Do you, or anyone in your team, have any health conditions that we need to be aware of? (ie, epilepsy, diabetes, asthma, etc)

Thank you!

That's everything we need to know. Please tick the box below to receive a copy of your responses, and then click the submit button to send in your application. We look forward to learning about your work!
