JF Harmon Summer Faculty/Student Research Assistantship Program Application

Application Deadline: 11:59 am on Friday, April 18, 2025

Maximum award: $3,000 per academic year

All full-time members of the Pitzer faculty on continuing appointments (tenure/tenure-track and visiting) are eligible to apply. For Pitzer faculty on continuing contracts, awarded funds must be spent before the end of their current contract.

The Summer Faculty-Student research assistantship program provides Pitzer students research funding support in the amount of $3,000 to undertake a full-time, eight-week research assistantship with a faculty member during the summer. Faculty may choose to elect two students to work on the project over a shorter time-frame, thus providing each student with half of the research support $3,000, i.e. $1,500 each.

The Faculty member Proposal:

  • a brief (500-700 word) description of your proposed research project and the role of the research assistant(s)
  • a timeline outlining the research assistant(s) weekly agenda

Student Statement:

  • a brief (250-500 word) statement describing their interests, background, and why they would like the opportunity to be a research assistant.
  • the student should include their name, Pitzer email address, phone number, year in College, Major, and permanent mailing address.
  • the student should also include information on any other summer research opportunities they have arranged or applied for. If the student has already received funding, they should briefly describe.

Participating faculty must supervise the research assistant throughout the duration of the research project and also ensure that any requisite training is complete before the research assistant begins work on the project. Please note that research assistants must be continuing Pitzer students.
