Yoko McClain Lecture Series Speaker Application

Yoko Matsuoka McClain (1924-2011) came to Oregon in 1952 as a student, receiving a B.A. and M.A from the University of Oregon. A UO professor of Japanese language and literature from 1964 to 1994, McClain wrote many books and articles and spoke frequently on both sides of the Pacific. The granddaughter of SĂ´seki Natsume (1867-1916), one of Japan's most well-known writers, McClain was respected by anyone familiar with Japanese literature, and her abilities as a scholar and educator fostered many opportunities both here and abroad. This lecture series celebrates the life and contributions of Yoko McClain as an enduring legacy that supports the sharing of knowledge related to Japanese literature and culture.
