Pediatric Emergency Care Coordinator Registration

Roles and responsibilities:


The role of a Pediatric Emergency Care Coordinator (PECC) is diverse and you may serve one or more of these responsibilities by overseeing pediatric specific duties. The PECC role at your ED can be a partnership - physicians, nurse practitioners, and nurses can all work together to lift their team up. While it is not required to have an alternate, it is a good idea for each Emergency Department to have more than one point of contact.

  • Facilitate and participate in ED pediatric QI/PI
  • Facilitate Pediatric-specific educational activities for ED staff and new hires
  • Competency evaluations that include children of all ages annually
  • Pediatric disaster preparedness and ensure the pediatric perspective is included in the hospital's disaster-preparedness activities
  • Ensure pediatric equipment, medications, staffing and other resources are available
  • Organize safety and injury prevention programs
  • Protocol development and review
  • Promote case reviews, QI/QA
  • Serve as liaison with EMS and Community Outreach
  • Promote pediatric education/training
  • Promote family-centered care
  • Participate and complete surveys
