I-20 Request Form

At Albany State University, an international student is an individual who meets one of the following criteria: -Student is currently living outside the U.S. and will require an F-1 visa to study in the U.S. -Student is not a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident and is currently in the U.S. on an F-1 visa. -Student is currently in the U.S. on another non-immigrant visa classification, which permits part-time or full-time study. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IMPORTANT INFORMATION (Please read Carefully!): F-1 Student Visa An F-1 Student Visa is issued by a US embassy or consulate abroad. After receipt of the I-20, make an appointment to apply for an F-1 visa. You will need your SEVIS ID which is located at the top left of the I-20 Form. In most countries, first-time students are required to appear for an interview. Each embassy and consulate sets its own interview policies and procedures. Be sure to check your U.S. embassy or consulate website for important information and application instructions. Canadians students do not require an application to the U.S. consulate for an entry visa. However, an I-20 and passport is required at the port of entry to the U.S. SEVIS and SEVIS Fee SEVIS stands for Student and Exchange Visitor Information System. It is an internet-based system that allows The Department of Homeland Security and approved schools to collect, track and monitor information regarding international students, exchange visitors, and scholars who enter the U.S. on F, M or J visas. Accurate and current information is transmitted electronically throughout an F-1 student’s authorized stay in the U.S. F-1 visa applicants who are entering the U.S. on an initial I-20 (including Canadian citizens) are required to pay a SEVIS fee of $350. This fee is used to supplement the administration and maintenance costs of the Student and Exchange Visitor information System. The SEVIS fee must be paid at least three days prior to the consular interview; Canadian citizens at least three days prior to entering the U.S. Instructions on how to pay the SEVIS fee can be found on the SEVIS I-901 website. It is important that you allow yourself plenty of time for security processing at the U.S. Port of Entry. It is also important that you enter the U.S. in F-1 student status. You can find information that will assist you in your travel and minimize processing delays on the U.S. Customs and Border Protection website. Requesting a Form I-20 or DS-2019

International Students admitted into a full-time academic program at Albany State University must obtain a Certificate of Eligibility (Form I-20 or DS-2019) to enter and/or re-enter the U.S. in F-1 Student or J-1 Exchange Visitor status. This applies to new students and transfer students from another U.S. university, college or high school. Students returning from a leave of absence must also have a Form I-20 or DS-2019 to return/remain in the United States. The procedures for requesting a Form I-20 / DS-2019 differs depending on academic level and visa type, please read the following instructions carefully:

 

Summer 2022 I-20/DS-2019's will be issued beginning Jan 24. Fall 2022 : I-20/DS-2019's will be issued beginning April 18. Spring 2023 : I-20/DS-2019's will be issued beginning Sept 12.

Documents showing Proof of Funding for Estimated Expenses Academic Year (2022-2023) $27,600 (Bachelor’s/Graduate Degree) (Please Note): If your family member(s) will join you in the U.S.: (If a student or scholar will be in J-1 or F-1 status, the legal spouse and children under age 21 may be eligible for J-2 or F-2 status to accompany or follow separately to the U.S. -Proof of Funding ($3,000 USD for each family member) -Copies of passports for each family member 3. Copies of the biographical and any prior U.S. visa page(s) from your passport 4. Certificate of Immunization (must include all of the vaccines listed below) 2 Doses of Measles, Mumps, and Rubella 1 Dose of Tetanus (TD) (no older than 10 years) 2 Doses of Varicella or Chicken Pox Titer 3 Doses of Hepatitis B (all international students) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Note: All documents must be translated in English, therefore, the documents must be submitted through one of the following Professional Academic Credential Evaluation Agencies below: -Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (AICE) -National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) (many students typically use Scholaro, Education Credential Evaluators, WES and Josef Silny & Associates) Upon receipt of all required documents (see below), the Form I-20 can be generated via the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) and forwarded to your ASU email. Note: The normal processing time for all I-20 requests is between 5-7 business days from the time of a complete and acceptable submission.
