Fundamentals of Genomic Predictions and Data-Driven Crop Breeding Training Course
Course Description
The Fundamentals of Genomic Predictions and Data-Driven Crop Breeding training course aims to provide participants with knowledge and understanding of genomic selection and other data-driven strategies in crop breeding. This includes a comprehensive knowledge of quantitative genetics and statistical genomics, enabling participants to effectively apply these tools for genomic selection. The course also covers in-depth knowledge of linear and mixed models and advanced models such as ridge regression, Bayesian, and Kernel methods.
Participants will gain knowledge and practical experience working with genomic relationship matrices, specifically leveraging them to dissect genotype-by-environment (G x E) interactions. Real data sets will be leveraged to demonstrate the genomic selections, dissecting G x E interactions, and other relevant analyses.
The course is intended for individuals with a basic understanding of crop breeding and genetics. While a basic knowledge of statistics and proficiency in using the R language would be advantageous, the course is structured to accommodate participants with diverse knowledge and expertise in crop breeding, statistics, and R programming.
Learning Modality
The course will be delivered face-to-face with a mixed modality of synchronous and asynchronous discussions involving theoretical concepts, practical and hands-on exercises, and self-paced e-learning activities.
