Please write a short (30 lines or less) summary of your current situation, and what you are looking for in a mentor. This information, together with your answers to the preceding questions, will be shown to any mentor you select, to help them decide whether they are able and willing to provide the mentoring you request.

Briefly describe the situation you are in (and any changes you anticipate during the next six months). This could include any major challenges you face in school or at work. If there are any specific systems engineering techniques, methods, and/or tools you think you might want advice on, please be as specific as you can in listing them. However, keep in mind that an INCOSE mentor will not have time to teach you any specific techniques, methods or tools, or help you solve homework problems.

If it would be helpful, you can read examples of mentee summaries at the bottom of this form.

Examples of Mentee Summaries

I work in a commercial company that doesn’t even understand the term “system engineering”. I went to a recent INCOSE meeting, and I can see a lot of value to my company in the ideas which were discussed at INCOSE. I would like a mentor who I can exchange ideas with about how to introduce some key systems engineering ideas into my company, without having to “preach” systems engineering – or even use that term.

I am a new employee in a company where most of the senior people seem to take it for granted that I understand systems engineering. I would like a mentor who can help me understand the relationship between the tasks I am assigned and systems engineering concepts.

I would like a mentor who can help me when I run into thorny problems with the requirements spec I am writing. I had a systems engineering course in college, but I have never had to write a whole spec on my own before.

I would like a mentor who can give me advice as I struggle to perform the risk management job I have been given on a program where top management doesn’t want to even hear that we have any risks, let alone that we need resources to mitigate them.

I would like a mentor who can help me plan and achieve professional recognition, including but not limited to professional certification, publishing papers, development of professional competencies, and professional society engagement.
