2024 Mike MacKay Transformational Coaching Award Application Form

The Mike MacKay Transformational Coaching Award recognizes outstanding Canadian coaches for their dedication and coaching leadership while developing competent, connected, competitive, confident future leaders with character. Two recipients will be selected annually, each receiving a $2,500 bursary, with one of the recipients being a female-identified coach working with female athletes.

The award is for those whose coaching/actions speak to the qualities of what is considered a TRANSFORMATIONAL COACH. A transformational coach;

Inspires athletes by believing in them
Is an active positive role model
appropriately challenges player(s), especially to think
Treats athletes as an individual, not as a group.

Letters of Support of the Nominee

This award requires two (2) reference letters of support for the coach being nominated written by two (2) different individuals.

At least one (1) of the submitted reference letters MUST be written by a former or current athlete the coach instructed within the last two (2) years.

The letters of support should specifically address the criteria below:

• Impact - Nominee has demonstrated the values of a transformational coach and how they actively promote that framework in their coaching context.

• Capacity Building - Nominee has demonstrated how their transformational coaching practices and environments have positively impacted other coaches within their club/organization/community.

• Leadership – Nominee should be known as a positive role model for the athletes and should consistently demonstrate leadership qualities and be able to define what success means to them.
