City of Medford Vacant Storefront Program Application

The City of Medford invites applicants for its Medford Vacant Storefront Grant Program, which will provide grants of up to $10,000 to assist Medford Microenterprises and Small Businesses who intend to occupy a currently vacant storefront in Medford.

This MAP provides a list of the currently eligible vacant storefront addresses.

HUD considers a business with 5 or fewer Full Time Equivalent employees to be a “Microenterprise” while a business with more than 5 Full Time Equivalent employees is considered a “Small Business.” “Full Time Equivalent” means one permanent full-time job or multiple permanent part-time jobs totaling at least 40 hours per week.

For Microenterprises to be eligible the applicant and their household must qualify as a low- or moderate-income (LMI) household earning 80% or less of the Area Median Income as defined by HUD.

For Small Businesses to be eligible the applicant must commit to making best efforts to hire LMI Medford residents to fill at least one Full Time Equivalent job.

For full details on the grant requirements please visit our Grant Guidelines.

This grant program is funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). All grants under this program are subject to the availability of CDBG funding from HUD and to the continued eligibility of the City to receive such funds.

Medford Vacant Storefront Grants will be matched with a $10,000 tax credit through the Massachusetts Vacant Storefront Program (MVSP) offered through the Massachusetts Office of Business Development (MOBD) and the Economic Assistance Coordinating Council (EACC). All applicants to the Medford Vacant Storefront Program must also submit an application to the MVSP program and receive approval on that application. For details on the MVSP visit Massachusetts Vacant Storefronts Program (MVSP) | Mass.gov
