I-RAISE Mentoring Expression of Interest (2025-26)

I-RAISE is a year-long cross-institutional career exploration program for graduate and undergraduate students from six Iowa colleges and universities (Iowa State University, Dordt University, Drake University, University of Northern Iowa, Central College, Simpson College). I-RAISE students receive substantive, mentored work experience in various aspects of research administration, network with peers and professionals across Iowa, and gain transferable skills for fields beyond research and teaching.

I-RAISE consists of:

  • A classroom-based bootcamp that introduces key concepts in pre-and post-award research administration, research development, and compliance (May 28, 2025 – June 6, 2025)
  • A 10-week summer internship with one or two research administration units, research centers, or departments at ISU (Summer 2025)
  • Academic-year internships at each student’s home institution (Fall 2025-Spring 2026)

I-RAISE internships are funded through the National Science Foundation’s GRANTED (Growing Research Access for Nationally Transformative Equity and Diversity) program, with the goal of building tomorrow’s research development workforce. There is no cost to host an I-RAISE student in your unit or center. Mentors are expected to meet regularly with interns and assign them meaningful work that advances the goals of both the intern and the unit. I-RAISE staff will provide basic mentorship training.

Please complete this form by January 31, 2025 to express interest in hosting an I-RAISE intern for summer 2026 and/or the 2025-26 academic year.

Graduate-level interns will be on quarter-time (10 hours/week) or half-time (20 hours/week) appointments each semester. Undergraduate interns will work 40 hours/week in the summer and 10 hours/week during the academic year. Interns may split their time between two units in a given semester, and units may host multiple interns at a time.
