Antes de otorgar su consentimiento, el investigador le deberá explicar lo siguiente; (i) el propósito, procedimientos y duración de la investigación médica, (ii) los procedimientos que sean experimentales; (iii) todos los riesgos previsibles razonables, molestias y beneficios de la investigación médica; (iv) cualquier procedimiento o tratamiento potencialmente beneficioso; y (v) cómo se va a mantener su confidencialidad. [Before you agree, the investigator must tell you about (i) the purposes, procedures and duration of the research; (ii) any procedures which are experimental; (iii) any reasonably foreseeable risks, discomforts and benefits of the research; (iv) any potentially beneficial alternative procedures or treatments; and (v) how confidentiality will be maintained.]

Cuando sea aplicable, el investigador deberá también informarle sobre (i) cualquier compensación disponible o tratamiento médico si ocurre una lesión; (ii) la posibilidad de riesgos previsibles; (iii) las circunstancias cuando el investigador suspenda su participación; (iv) costos adicionales a usted; (v) qué puede ocurrir si usted no desea continuar su participación; (vi) cuándo usted será informado de nuevos hallazgos los cuales pueden afectar su disposición a participar; y (vii) cuántas personas van a participar en el estudio.
