Translation Bridge Funding Request Form (for Research)

About this form: This form is to be used to request funding of a consent translation following the use of the short form process to consent a non-English speaking research participant.

Effective January 1, 2025, any use of the short form consent process should be followed by a translation of the full consent form. This will provide participants with a consent form they can refer to during their participation in research. See more information and FAQs here.

Internal Translation Services: The Fred Hutch Interviewing, Translation, and Interpretation Services, part of the Shared Resources Collaborative Data Services (CDS) group, can translate consents into Spanish in-house (fee-based). They can also coordinate your translation request for other languages, under pre-existing vendor contracts. The language service providers can support over 275 languages. There is an ITIS REDCap intake form to request new translations and/or to obtain a quote for translation projects: https://redcap.link/fhcctranslationrequest

Bridge Funding for Translations: Fred Hutch has limited institutional funds for FY25 to help research teams cover these costs during the rollout period. Please read the information below before you submit this form.

Before applying for bridge funding, investigators must try to cover translations costs with existing funds:

  • Industry sponsors: Most industry-sponsored studies should already have translation costs built into the budget as this has been a budget requirement since January 2024 as part of the industry fee letter requirement. Consult your study budget and/or clinical trial agreement. (Known exception: studies where the sponsor only provides the drug.)
  • Grants: Translations are an allowable direct cost for most NIH awards; for other awards, check your sponsor-specific award terms. For active awards, re-budgeting may be allowed to cover these costs, per the terms of your award, or determine if your sponsor would consider a request for supplemental funds.

When working with funders on covering translation costs, stress that the translation of the study-specific consent form is a new regulatory and institutional requirement for research.

If you have confirmed sponsors will not pay for translations following the short form consent process, use this form to request bridge funding.
