Positive Indian Parenting, also known as PIP, is a parenting curriculum developed by the National Indian Child Welfare Association (NICWA) to provide a brief, practical, and culturally specific training program for Native parents. This Train the Trainers training is designed to prepare facilitators to educate and support Native parents using a culturally specific approach. This culturally based training program provides a manual that contains instructional materials for eight sessions, each grounded in traditional Native teachings about child rearing. In addition to this content, it prepares trainers to organize, conduct, and evaluate the Positive Indian Parenting curriculum for Native parents. The manual includes background reading on traditional and modern parenting, lesson plans, handouts, and exercises, all of which are designed and tested to accommodate Native learning preferences. Native Serving Organization is identified as any organization serving Native Families as part of its programming.
