Summer 2025 Description of Duties

Please complete this form in order to generate a Description of Duties (DoD) for Academic Student Employees (ASE) as required by their Collective Bargaining Agreement (except Acting Instructor-Graduate Student). Description of Duties form should be completed per ASE per assigned section.


We ask that you provide a copy of the DoD to the ASE hired to serve as Teaching Assistants. For Readers or Tutors, a copy of the Description of Duties you submit will be included in their Summer Sessions agreement letter. If any hours adjust after this form is submitted, please contact summer_hr@berkeley.edu about revisions.

Description of Duties

The job duties designated below are required of the Academic Student Employee. Please fill in the appropriate item and describe as applicable.


The total number of hours entered below must match the total number of hours submitted per section in eHire for Teaching Assistants. The calculated FTE for Reader/Tutors must be close match (less than 5% difference) with the FTE submitted per section in eHire.

Enter the number of hours per week providing instructions for the discussion section.

Enter the number of hours per week providing instructions for the laboratory section.

Enter the total number of expected hours preparing for each assigned lecture/discussion/lab/other section.

Enter the number of hours per week for open office hours, meeting with students, answering questions (including emails), or otherwise being a resource to students.

Enter the total number of expected hours meeting with supervising instructor to discuss workload, address issues, review student progress, and enhance working relationship.
