Important Health Notice and Agreement for Adopters
Dear Valued Adopters,
As part of our commitment to transparency and the well-being of our rescued animals, we want to address an important aspect of pet health management and ensure you are prepared to take on pet ownership.
We are dedicated to providing the best possible care for the dogs we rescue. However, due to the large number of dogs we take in, it is inevitable that some may carry parasites or have other health issues that may arise pre- or even post-adoption. This reality is something our veterinarians, including have confirmed as an ongoing challenge despite our best efforts.
Preventive Treatment and Health Testing
We provide preventive treatments for a range of potential health issues and conduct tests for major illnesses. Despite our efforts, some health problems may emerge or persist after adoption. Depending on the stage of adoption, certain treatments may be ongoing, and it will be your responsibility to continue them. We cannot guarantee the complete health of any dog, and adopters must be prepared to manage their pet's ongoing health needs.
Commitment to Care:
By adopting us, you are agreeing to provide a loving and nurturing environment for your new dog. This includes ensuring they receive proper nutrition, exercise, and regular veterinary care.
Follow-Up Veterinary Care:
We strongly recommend scheduling a vet visit within the first few weeks after adoption to establish a baseline of health and begin any necessary treatments or vaccinations.
Deworming and Fecal Examinations:
Routine deworming and fecal examinations are essential parts of responsible pet ownership. These procedures help ensure your new pet's health and prevent the spread of parasites.
No Health Guarantees:
As outlined in our adoption contract, we cannot make health guarantees for the dogs. This clause is standard and necessary given the unpredictable nature of animal rescue.
Your Role as an Adopter:
We ask all adopters to be vigilant and proactive in their pet's health care. Regular vet visits, adhering to deworming schedules, and conducting periodic fecal tests are crucial steps to maintain your pet's health and well-being.
No Fees Returned:
Please note that adoption fees are non-refundable. These fees help cover the costs of care and medical treatment for all the animals in our rescue.
First Right of Refusal:
If for any reason you can no longer keep your dog, we must be given the first opportunity to take the dog back. This ensures that our rescued dogs continue to receive the care and love they need, and it helps us maintain our commitment to their well-being.
Behavioral Training and Socialization:
Proper training and socialization are critical for the well-being of your dog. We encourage adopters to invest in professional training to address any behavioral issues and help your dog adjust to their new home.
Financial Responsibility:
Adopting a pet is a long-term financial commitment. You agree to accept full financial responsibility for your dog’s care, including routine and emergency veterinary expenses, food, grooming, and any other necessary supplies or services.
Unpredictability of Dogs:
While we strive to assess the behavior and health of each dog in our care, dogs can be unpredictable. We cannot guarantee the behavior, temperament, or health of any dog you adopt.
Release of Liability:
By adopting a dog from us, you agree to release and hold harmless Dogtown, its volunteers, and its affiliates from any and all liabilities, claims, or damages that may arise from owning or interacting with the dog.
Assumption of Risk:
You acknowledge that owning and caring for a dog carries inherent risks, including but not limited to bites, scratches, and other injuries. You agree to assume all risks associated with adopting and owning a dog from Dogtown.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter. By working together, we can ensure that our rescued dogs have the best chance at a healthy and happy life.
