Position Summary

The New York City school system is the largest in the United States, composed of over 1 million students and 75,000+ teachers in over 1,800+ schools. New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) prepare students to meet grade-level standards in reading, writing and math, and prepare high school students to graduate ready for college and careers.

Office Description:

Research-based educational policy and data transparency play an important role within the NYCPS. The Research and Policy Support Group (RPSG) is at the center of this effort by ensuring that policymakers have access to sound and timely research, analytics, and program evaluations. As part of this role, RPSG conducts its own research and program evaluations and serves as a bridge between the NYCPS and external research parties.

Position Summary:

Beginning in the 2023–24 school year, NYCPS launched NYC Reads and NYC Solves, a pair of initiatives aimed at ensuring that all New York City students become strong readers and mathematicians via equitable access to research-backed, high-quality reading and math instructional materials and methods. These initiatives require districts with Grades K-8 to select an approved literacy curriculum and schools with Grades 6-9 to select an approved math curriculum. These initiatives are being phased in over multiple years and provide educators with training and implementation support.

To support the data and reporting needs of these critical, high-visibility instructional initiatives, RPSG seeks a part-time Data & Reporting Analyst to produce sound and timely analytics and reporting to support NYCPS decision-making, promote data transparency, and improve the effectiveness of instructional initiatives and programming.
