The CSU Expository Reading and Writing Curriculum (ERWC) is seeking passionate and committed educators to voluntarily serve on its Steering Committee. This is a unique and voluntary opportunity to help shape the direction and development of one of California’s most impactful literacy initiatives. We are currently recruiting for the following voluntary/unpaid positions:
CSU Faculty Member – 1 roles available
CSU English Council Liaison – 1 role available
Community College Representative (California) – 1 role available
Secondary School Educator (Middle School) – 1 role available
Secondary School Educator (High School) – 1 roles available
Who Should Apply?
We welcome applications from educators who are committed to advancing literacy, equity, and college/career readiness through thoughtful curriculum and collaboration. Experience with the ERWC is highly valued but not required for all roles.
Responsibilities Include:
Advising on curriculum development and revision
Supporting implementation efforts across California
Collaborating with educators across educational segments
Advocating for best practices in reading and writing instruction
Selection Process and Standards:
Per the bylaws, Appointed Executive Committee Members, and Steering Committee members serve a term of three years. Appointed Steering Committee members appointed in 2025-2026 will serve through 2027-2028.
New members shall be jointly appointed by the CAR/W Co-Director (MPP) and the ERWC Steering Committee Chair in consultation with the ERWC Steering Committee.
2.5.a. Members shall be appointed based on their qualifications as literacy leaders and their institutional, disciplinary, and regional perspectives.
2.5.b. Appointees will submit a short statement of their expertise in the areas of teacher education, writing and rhetoric, secondary literacy, curriculum development, language development, and/or English studies and their experience as an ERWC leader to the CAR/W Co-Director (MPP). They will also submit an abbreviated 2-page CV. Evidence of expertise may include but is not limited to an Approved 4/24/2024 advanced degree in a field related to rhetorical literacies and academic preparation, scholarly presentations and publications in these areas, and/or extensive professional experience.
2.5.c. Members may be added as needed beyond the minimum number of fifteen ERWC Steering Committee members to support grant activities and new projects.
2.6 The term of an ERWC Steering Committee member shall be three years; the CAR/W Co-Director (MPP) and ERWC Steering Committee Chair may reappoint members for additional terms following their first term.
