Application Acknowledgments

  • Learning Assistants earn $15.00 per hour as a stipend of equal payments throughout the semester.
  • This position is considered a semester-by-semester position with the option to apply for subsequent semesters. Returning LAs are given priority placement but are not guaranteed positions.
  • If an applicant has one or more active positions within the University of Utah, employment as an LA may require leaving/reducing hours at another position if the applicant's total FTE is too high.
  • Generally, University of Utah students should only work up to 20 hours per week.

By selecting "YES" below, you agree to the following statements:

  • I will respond to LA Program emails within 2 business days. I understand that if I receive an offer and do not respond within 2 business days, my offer may be rescinded.
  • I understand that if I accept a position and then withdraw my acceptance during the two weeks prior to the start of the semester, I am putting the LA program and my assigned course in a difficult position. If I withdraw during this time period, it may negatively impact the likelihood that I will receive future LA placement offers.
  • I understand that while most LA offers will be extended well ahead of the start to a semester, some offers may not be extended until two weeks before a semester begins.

I understand that if I accept a position, it is my responsibility to complete any hiring paperwork prior to my start date indicated on my offer letter. If I fail to complete the hiring process, my offer will be rescinded or I cannot begin working until my hiring is completed.

By checking the check box below, you agree to the following statements:

  • If hired as an LA, I will complete the Learning Assistant Orientation (on Canvas and/or in-person Orientation) prior to the start of the semester. Failure to complete orientation may result in dismissal and/or may make me ineligible for future LA positions.
  • I will communicate any schedule changes in a timely manner to the LA Program staff AND my assigned instructor.
  • If I accept an LA position, I will respond to emails from the course instructor within 2 business days leading up to, and during the semester.
  • If this is my first time working as an LA, I will enroll in SCI 5050: The Science of Learning. This is a 1-credit hour class that can be elected as CR/NC or to receive a grade. The LA Program covers the course registration fee.
  • I will be paid for the 1 hour I spend in SCI 5050 each week but not for preparation time outside of class and/or homework (typically LAs spend 1-2 hours per week on homework/projects).
  • A link will be provided to self-register for SCI 5050 after you have accepted your offer of employment. The course is NOT listed in the course catalog.

  • Do you have any additional information you would like us to know or consider?
  • Do you have any feedback you would like to give us that would make this application easier?

Thank you for submitting a Learning Assistant application for Fall 2025 semester.

Keep an eye on your email for additional information and offers. You will have 48 hours to respond and accept, if you do not accept within this time, your position may be offered to another candidate.
