SCPS Scholarship for MPS Students

As part of our commitment to helping adult learners achieve their educational goals, the School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS) is pleased to announce that we have scholarship funds available for the Summer 2025 semester. Scholarships will vary based on merit and financial need, and award values will range from $500 to $3,834. The purpose of this scholarship is to support students who may be experiencing unexpected financial challenges and/or recent job displacement due to government downsizing or layoffs in the private sector. Scholarships will be applied to tuition and fees for the Summer 2025 term.


Scholarship Eligibility and Requirements


> Commitment to Completing the Master of Public Safety Degree: Students demonstrate a strong commitment to completing the Master of Public Safety (MPS) degree in order to advance personal, educational, or professional goals in the field of public safety (evaluated based on essay response in this application).


> Financial Need: Students demonstrate financial need based on responses to questions in this application. Preference will be given to students experiencing recent job displacement or significant financial challenges.


> Program Admittance and Enrollment in MPS Coursework:

Students must be admitted to the MPS Program as of the Summer 2025 term (or prior terms). Prospective students who applied for admission in the Summer 2025 term (including those awaiting admittance decisions) are also eligible to apply for this scholarship; enrollment in MPS coursework for the Summer 2025 term is also a requirement for this scholarship.


> Academic Strength: Students demonstrate academic strength and potential for success within the MPS program as follows:

•    Currently enrolled students must have demonstrated academic strength within the MPS program based on their cumulative GPA for MPS coursework completed through the Spring 2025 term

•    Newly admitted students must have demonstrated academic strength in undergraduate studies or recent continuing education programs such as the FBI National Academy, FBI ELEVATE, or UVA National Criminal Justice Command College


> If selected to receive a scholarship, the recipient must provide a thank-you note addressed to Melissa Lubin, Dean of the School of Continuing and Professional Studies. Thank-you notes should be sent via email to scps-scholarships@virginia.edu.


> Applicants for this scholarship understand that their responses to the scholarship application questions will be shared with SCPS leadership and the scholarship selection committee.


All MPS students meeting the above requirements are eligible to apply for the SCPS Summer 2025 scholarship.

Note: Scholarships for selected recipients will vary based on merit, financial need and the number of course enrollments in the Summer 2025 term. The minimum award value = $500; the maximum scholarship award value will cover the cost of tuition and fees for up to two courses.
