Eric Elder Memorial Medal

Dr Eric Elder worked as a GP in Tuatapere, Southland, for close to 60 years. He is regarded as the grandfather of vocational training for general practice in New Zealand.


Nominations are invited for the Eric Elder Memorial Medal. Nominations must be received by 6.00pm on Thursday 17 April 2025.

Award criteria

The recipient of the Eric Elder Memorial Medal must be a College Fellow (typically a rural GP) and will be invited to deliver a presentation during GP25: Conference for General Practice, The recipient will also receive a medal at the Fellowship and Awards Ceremony, held at the conference, on 26 July 2025 at Te Pae Conference Centre, Christchurch.
