About the Program

The African Peering and Interconnection Forum Fellowship equips 15 individuals engaged in Internet development with technical knowledge, culminating in the African Peering and Interconnection Forum where they address interconnection, peering, and traffic exchange challenges while maximizing opportunities that grow the Internet.

Who Is Eligible to Apply?

Applicants should be individuals actively engaged in Internet policy, business, and/or technical development related to peering and transit in Africa.

All applicants must:

Reside in Africa.
Have participated in, or be working towards the development of IXP.
Be actively involved in Internet peering policy, business, and technical matters in their respective country/region.
Not be currently enrolled in an Internet Society fellowship program
Have reliable access to a broadband Internet connection and relevant devices.
Be available to participate fully in the 4-month experience.
Be fluent in English.

Essay Questions

African Peering and Interconnection Forum is an annual conference that aims to promote the development of national and cross-border interconnection and offers the African technical community a unique opportunity to showcase interconnection challenges and opportunities. It focuses on Internet interconnection dynamics, content distribution, and transit obstacles at local and regional levels. AfPIF is part of a larger program that aims to achieve 50% local and 50% international Internet traffic by 2025.

Fellowship Packages

This fellowship covers flights and/or accommodation for the event. All fellows will receive a stipend to cover ground transportation and miscellaneous expenses.

A fellow may be awarded a partial or full package to attend the African Peering and Interconnection Forum 2024:

Partial Package will be one of the following:
A return-trip air ticket to Kinshasa, DRC.
Hotel accommodation for the duration of the event.

Full Package will be both of the following:
A return-trip air ticket to Kinshasa, DRC.
Hotel accommodation for the duration of the event.

The fellows will cover any additional expenses not included in the fellowship.

La bourse du Forum africain de peering et d'interconnexion (AfPIF) permet à 15 personnes engagées dans le développement de l'Internet d'acquérir des connaissances techniques, aboutissant au Forum africain de peering et d'interconnexion où elles abordent les défis de l'interconnexion, du peering et de l'échange de trafic tout en maximisant les opportunités de développement d'Internet.

Le Forum est une conférence annuelle qui vise à promouvoir le développement de l’interconnexion nationale et transfrontalière et offre à la communauté technique africaine une opportunité unique de présenter les défis et les opportunités de l’interconnexion. Il se concentre sur la dynamique de l'interconnexion Internet, la distribution de contenu et les obstacles au transit aux niveaux local et régional.

L'AfPIF fait partie d'un programme plus vaste qui vise à atteindre 50 % de trafic Internet local et 50 % de trafic Internet international d'ici 2025.

Bourse
