Adjunct Hiring Procedures (see FHB V.H.3)
Adjunct faculty who will teach 2 or fewer classes during the academic year.
Submit “sufficient information to support appointment,” including
1) Diversity Self-Assessment (if available), and 2) steps taken to arrive at nomination, including advertisements, personal contacts, e-mails to local department chairs, review of submitted materials, and any other recruitment or selection activities. Other material to be submitted includes 3) evidence of the candidate’s teaching abilities (for example: course evaluations, department chair letters, course syllabi, student letters) or an explanation of why these materials are unavailable. 4) The candidate’s cv/resume and contact information also should be submitted. For contract purposes, the FG should specify the semester(s) and course(s) to be taught.
After submission, these materials are reviewed and may be approved solely by the Dean of Faculty.
Adjunct faculty who will teach 3-4 classes during the academic year.
To expedite hiring, these procedures are also being used for adjunct faculty who have taught 3 or more classes (including full-time) at Pitzer in the previous academic year.
Submit “sufficient information to support appointment,” including 1) Diversity Self-Assessment (if available), and 2) steps taken to arrive at nomination, including advertisements, personal contacts, e-mails to local department chairs, review of submitted materials, and any other recruitment or selection activities. Other material to be submitted includes 3) evidence of the candidate’s teaching abilities (for example: course evaluations, department chair letters, course syllabi, student letters) or an explanation of why these materials are unavailable. 4) The candidate’s cv/resume and contact information also should be submitted. For contract purposes, the FG should specify the semester(s) and course(s) to be taught.

Adjunct faculty who will teach full-time -- initial appointment at Pitzer.
Submit “sufficient information to support appointment,” including 1) Diversity Self-Assessment (if available), and 2) steps taken to arrive at nomination, including advertisements, personal contacts, e-mails to local department chairs, review of submitted materials, and any other recruitment or selection activities. There should be evidence of compliance with the spirit of Pitzer’s affirmative action procedures such as job postings, (virtual) campus visits, personal interviews (i.e., search procedures), see V.H.3.a.b. Other material to be submitted includes 3) evidence of the candidate’s teaching abilities (for example: course evaluations, department chair letters, course syllabi, student letters) or an explanation of why these materials are unavailable. 4) The candidate’s cv/resume and contact information also should be submitted. For contract purposes, the FG should specify the semester(s) and course(s) to be taught.
