Summer 2023 GEO Application

Due: March 1, 2023 by 11:59pm CST

Late applications are accepted on a case-by-case basis.

Please note: Summer applications are processed on a rolling basis and some specific programs have earlier application deadlines than March 1.

It is highly recommended to meet with Allie Olson, Director of the Global Engagement Office before you submit your GEO application.

There is no application fee for this GEO Application.

The GEO Application is the College's internal eligibility application for students interested in studying abroad. If your GEO Application is approved, it means you are approved to APPLY FOR certain study abroad programs and it is not approval INTO a specific program itself. Each program will have its own eligibility requirements and we can never guarantee admission to any program.

Basic Eligibility:

  • 2.5 GPA
  • Good academic, disciplinary, and financial standing with the College
  • Advisor(s) support

BE CAREFUL OF AUTOFILL. Every semester at least one student submits an application where they used autofill on a section and information on other sections of the application were affected. This led to confusing and incorrect information submitted as part of the students' applications.

If you need a very specific course that a certain program offers to stay on track to graduate, notify Allie Olson as soon as possible and BEFORE you submit this application.

Completing this application incorrectly may result in your application not being considered. Please read all instructions carefully and reach out to Allie Olson [aolson@lakeforest.edu] with any questions.

The minimum GPA requirement is 2.7 GPA, but exceptions can be made on a case-by-case basis.

Reach out to Allie with questions or concerns.

GPAs will be double-checked with the Registrar's Office, and letter grades under P/F grades will be calculated unless P/F is the standard grading policy for the course (such as an academic internship). This is because the vast majority of study abroad programs do not recognize P/F grades.

Advisor Support

In order to process your application, it is required that you have discussed with your advisor(s) about your study abroad plans.

GEO reaches out to your advisor(s) to confirm you have discussed your interest with them and if they support your participation in a program.

During your discussion with your advisor(s), make sure you know:

  1. if there are any specific courses you need to take while you are abroad
  2. if your major department has any limitations on how many courses for your major you can take abroad

IMPORTANT: If you have not already met with your advisor(s), you can still submit your GEO application. We will just not be able to process your application until you do meet with them.

Do you anticipate any obstacles to participating in a study abroad program? Please select any of the listed obstacles that would impact your participation in an abroad program.

Selecting one or more of these will NOT negatively affect your GEO application. Instead, it will only help us to advise and provide you with resources for your off-campus experience.

Experiential Learning Requirement

Studying abroad for a summer counts as a student's Experiential Learning college requirement, as long as the program is at least 3 weeks long. A short essay (1-2 pages) upon return is required to fully satisfy the requirement.
